How Kuycon monitors are made
A monitor is not made in one piece: the panel comes from a panel maker, the chassis from a machining workshop, the electronics from a control board, and the calibration from a measurement line. Here is where each part is produced, what is checked, and what this short supply chain changes on the price tag.
The chain
From panel to box
The panel comes from a panel maker
This is the point many people miss: almost no monitor manufacturer produces its own panels. Three or four industrial groups worldwide do, and the whole sector buys from them. The Nano IPS and IPS Black panels in the range come from LG Display; the QD-OLED in the Q32S comes from Samsung Display. These are the same panel families found at the established brands, at the same tier.
The chassis is machined
Recent models use a solid aluminium chassis, CNC machined and then anodised. On the P32T, that gives a block of 716 × 413 × 22 mm weighing 6.5 kg. The aluminium is not just cosmetic: it dissipates the heat from the electronics without a fan, which explains the complete absence of noise.
The electronics and the connectivity
This is where much of the difference between models is decided. Feeding a 6K panel at 60 Hz requires more than 25 Gbit/s: it takes a board capable of handling DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1 and DSC compression. Add to that USB-C charging up to 100 W, the USB hub and support for the DDC/CI protocol, which lets you control brightness from the keyboard.
Assembly in Foshan
Assembly takes place in a factory in Foshan, Guangdong. The monitors are bought directly from that manufacturer, with no intermediary: that is the particularity of the model, and the main explanation for the price gap.
Calibration, monitor by monitor
The models intended for image work are calibrated individually at the end of the line, not by batch. On the P32T, a colour calibration report is supplied with the monitor, with a Delta E below 2 — the threshold below which the eye no longer distinguishes the gap between the requested colour and the displayed colour.
Pixel inspection
Every panel is inspected to the ISO 9241-307standard, at the Class I threshold — the strictest of the common commercial thresholds. It is also the criterion used by the warranty: a monitor with defective pixels beyond that threshold is covered.
Shipping
A buffer stock is kept in Europe for fast dispatch; large volumes ship directly from the factory. Deliveries within the European Union are DDP, duties and taxes paid: the price shown is the price you pay.
Why the same type of panel costs half as much
The question deserves a precise answer, because an unexplained price gap is rightly unsettling. It comes down to four items, and none of them concerns the panel itself.
- No intermediary. Direct purchase from the factory, direct sale to the customer. A conventional channel adds an importer, a distributor and a reseller, each with their margin.
- No features you may not need. The 5K monitors in the range include no camera, no microphone and no speakers. It is a deliberate choice: those components represent a real share of the price of a monitor like the Studio Display — the Pro Display XDR, for its part, had none of them — and many buyers already own a webcam and a speaker.

- The stand is not imposed. The monitor comes with its VESA adapter; the stand is ordered in a pack or separately, which avoids charging it to those who use a desk arm.
What the short supply chain does not allow
In fairness, the reverse deserves saying too. A direct model also means: no showroom to see the monitor before buying, no presence in the big retail chains, and a catalogue that changes faster than that of an established manufacturer. In return, the chain is publicly documented, the European after-sales service is identified, and the 24-month warranty in the European Union applies on the same terms as with any other seller.
How to recognise good manufacturing, at any brand
A few useful markers, whatever monitor you are looking at:
- Sustained brightness, not the peak. A peak figure held for a few seconds over a small area says nothing about everyday comfort.
- Native contrast. 1000:1 is the IPS norm; 2000:1 indicates an IPS Black panel, a real difference on blacks.
- The mention of unit calibration rather than a plain "factory calibrated" with no detail. A measurement report supplied with the monitor is the best sign.
- The pixel standard stated. ISO 9241-307 Class I is the most demanding threshold in common use.
- Connectivity detailed by version. HDMI 2.0 and HDMI 2.1 do not carry the same thing; a spec sheet that does not state the version is often hiding the former.
